DieselGate Fallout: Electric rEVolution - German Plug-In Car Sales Surge In September To Near Record Level.

InsideEVs.

InsideEvs reports that, finally, we can see the growth in German EVs market again and this Electric rEVolution is for real. The slowdown in sales was due to the new incentives for electric cars introduced in June of this year. Another problem is that the best-selling electric cars are Tesla Model S and X, BMW i3 and Renault Zoe.  We do not have the best affordable electric cars in Europe yet. All automakers are now horrified by losing the luxury sedans market to Tesla Model S and can see the writing on the wall: they will be toasted by cheaper electric cars very soon. German ban on all sales of the new diesel and gas powered cars by 2030 seems to be more and more coming reality and now Mercedes and Volkswagen  will have to follow BMW seriously with the roll out of dozens of electric cars.
This year we will have another boost in EVs sales with BMW i3 improved range, Renault Zoe coming with 400 km range and Opel Ampera-e with 500 km range. Fast charging networks for electric cars are being built all across Europe. All automakers are busy now sourcing the best lithium batteries available and  Lithium Batteries Megafactories are rising in Europe following aggressive moves from Tesla and Chinese EV batteries makers. Security of lithium supply becomes the  basis for this Electric rEVolution. Below are chronicles of the Electric rEVolution happening finally in Germany.

Augen auf beim Lithium-Explorer-Kauf!

"Ganfeng exports and produces over 20 unique lithium products. In addition, it has developed an innovative patented technology that significantly shortens the standard production process. To support their expanding global operations, Ganfeng has taken steps to secure its future supply by investing heavily in a Canadian company called International Lithium Corp (TSX.V: ILC)."   "Now we can put the electric cars party taking over at  Paris Motor Show in the perspective. Germany would like to join Netherland and Norway banning sales of ICE cars from 2030. It means that now they will have to make electric cars and all that news about dozens electric cars coming in the next 10 years are getting more credibility. Lithium Battery makers are already moving into Europe: Mercedes, LG Chem, A123, BMZ and Volkswagen have all announced Lithium Megafactories in the making and security of lithium supply will be coming on the European investors' radar screens very soon. Read more."

Lithium Race: Is This The All-Electric BMW i5?

AutoGiude.

AutoGuide reports on its findings of how the all-electric BMW i5 can look. Mercedes have made a lot of headlines recently with its new EQ electric brand and 10 electric cars coming by 2025. Volkswagen, after its best DieselGate advertisement campaign for electric cars,  promises to be good and to deliver 30 electric cars - if they survive the tide of litigation including $9 Billion in lawsuits from its own investors.  Lithium technology is here, but it is still more talk than best electric cars we can buy. GM Bolt will change it this year and Tesla Model 3 will ignite the race in the West later. We need millions of electric cars ASAP  and BMW i5 will be welcomed to the EV Team. BMW must make a bold move now just to stay relevant as Tesla Model S is already outselling Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7. They have just a few short years to deliver before China will start making EVs capable of earning respect in the West.  There are 25 companies which are making 51 models of EVs already in China with 200 developing 4,000 new EV models.  They are not Teslas yet but getting there very fast.

"Markets will be up and down, companies will come and go, but we are witnessing the historic moment of coming out of ICE-age in our transportation. We are talking here about the disruption of $4 trillion transportation industry based on Lithium Technology. Now it is time to check out where all this lithium will be coming from. And the answer: "From Panasonic" - will be better than: "From the underneath of Tesla Gigafactory in Nevada", but still the same like if electricity is coming just from the socket in your wall. Read more."

Lithium Race: Electric Cars Available Today And Coming In The West Vs China's 51 EVs You Can Buy Now.

"This picture above summarises very well the state of lithium race in the West now.  We are missing a few electric cars which you can buy in Europe for the full picture like Renault, Electric Mercedes B-Class and Electric Smart. But the general picture is right. We are moving into the fast lane for EVs mass market with the first two electric cars priced below $40k and with over 200 miles range: Chevy Bolt and Tesla Model 3. The big tide is coming, but progress was very slow before this year - we need millions of electric cars and very fast now. People are ready to buy the best EVs. Now we can compare this picture with China which is selling this year more than double amount  of electric cars than the US and Europe. They are not Teslas yet, but in China 25 companies are making 51 models of EVs today and 200 are developing another 4,000 EV models! When will Apple make its mind finally and change this new EV world overnight? I expect that this year we will reach a tipping point of 1,000,000 electric cars sold in the world in one year! Lithium is the magic metal at the very heart of this rEVolution and below you can find who is feeding this Switch. Read more."

Lithium Race: Daimler To Make More Than 10 Electric Cars By 2025.

"Finally, great Germans are talking about electric cars seriously. Daimler is going to leave DieselGate behind in the dust and produce 10 electric cars by 2025 reaching the goal of 15-25 percent of sales overall.  I do hope that they are seriously serious this time - I have seen all those beautiful prototypes in 2009 already.  Instead, after spending billions of dollars on hydrogen they all have chosen "Clean Diesel. " We are all trying to clean that mess now from our streets.
Volkswagen can lead by example now: if the company can survive all billions of dollars claimed in hundreds of lawsuits - "they are going to make millions of electric cars as well." I do really hope that they can all change - so far Elon Musk was taking on all those monsters of cancer hazard diesel pollution in the West in a very small team with Nissan-Renault and GM. China has managed to build EV industry from scratch and is now the leading electric cars manufacturing nation with sales approaching 500,000 this year.  Hopefully, we will be celebrating 1,000,000 EVs sold worldwide during 2016 in December.  Daimler is better to hurry before they will become totally irrelevant. Tesla Model S has already outsold Mercedes Class S last year! Read more."

InsideEVs:

After several months of confusion surrounding a new plug-in vehicle incentive program over the Summer, Germany finally woke up and noted some serious plug-in car sales growth.
In fact, September was second best month on record, with 3,061of new registrations (up 56% year-over-year), giving plug-ins a market share past the magic 1% number (1.03%)!
More importantly, both types of plug-ins are growing:
  • BEVs – 1,641 (up 77% year-over-year)
  • PHEVs – 1,42 (up 37% year-over-year)
Four main factors could be mentioned behind the growth:
  • new incentives,
  • start of volume deliveries of longer-range BMW i3,
  • the beginning of Model X deliveries
  • …and the always nefarious “late-in-the-year-EU-emission-dance” with the Kia Soul EV – a process that sees the model registered in Germany for benefit (lowering) of the company’s fleet CO2 numbers, then turned around and sold outside the EU.
We note 418 sales for Kia in September, after 439 for the entire year…but maybe there was just a big rush at year’s end.  Again.

Tesla in general should be happy with the results in September with 200 Model S and 177 Model X registrations during the month, which put it ahead of most brands offering plug-ins.
Also the 279 Renault ZOEs sold continues to be a great result for the brand, because with 2,115 registrations YTD, the all-electric Renault is the most popular plug-in for Germany.
But the biggest splash overall was made by the BMW i3 with its new longer-range version arriving on the market.  A record of 511units were registered, including 291 BEVs and 220 REx models.
It will be great to see how German market expands with reinforcements from the new 41 kWh/400km (NEDC) Renault ZOE Z.E. 40.
