Lithium Boom: Warren Buffett's BYD Qin Made To The World's Top Three Best Selling Electric Cars In June.

Time is to check out Plug-In Hybrid BYD Qin from the Warren Buffett backed company. BYD was a news darling in 2008 when Warren Buffett has bought 10% stake in Chinese auto-maker in the middle of financial Armageddon. His 200 million investment quickly turned into 1 billion plus after the worst of the financial crisis was over in 2009. But after that BYD was struggling with safety and sales - technology was not there and the market was sceptical. This year BYD has made the news becoming the world's largest electric bus producer and with its own lithium battery Megafactory taking on Elon Musk himself and his Tesla. Just couple of weeks ago BYD has secured a large order from UK for electric buses and now BYD Qin has made it into the world's top three best selling electric cars in June after Tesla  Model S and Nissan Leaf. It looks like China can become world's largest auto-market for electric cars if not this year, but the next one for sure.

Lithium Race: Tesla Model S Surges To #1 In Worldwide Electric Car Sales For June 2015.

"In June, the Tesla Model S was the best selling plug-in electric car in the world.
With sales estimated at 4,994, Tesla Model S exceeded the 4,711 Nissan LEAFs sold, while the BYD Qin in third was able to cross the 4,000 mark at 4,015."

Backed By Warren Buffett China's BYD Takes Aim At Elon Musk's Tesla Gigafactory In Battery Race.

Our industry is getting hotter by the day. After Apple Electric iCar rumours running wild and getting more and more confirmation, we have Warren Buffett stepping into the Lithium Battery Race. Now we have Tesla with its Gigafactory, LG Chem with its Megafactory in China and Boston Power with stake holding by or strategic partner Ganfeng Lithium in Lithium Battery Race. BYD with Warren Buffett backing is making this investment landscape even more exciting. As Elon Musk has said: "All transportation, apart from rockets, will be electric"

Dump The Pump: Warren Buffett And Elon Musk To Spark A Lithium Boom.

I find it quite symbolic that Oil Price has published this article by James Stafford. Our lithium story is getting on the investors' radar screens, the process is slow and masqueraded by the carnage in commodity sector. People and companies who are building their portfolios cannot imaging more opportune time: Elon Musk and Warren Buffett are making the broad market appeal for electric cars and solar energy, but lithium market itself is still full of smoke and mirrors. And now just wait for the official confirmation from Apple about electric iCar to spark all electric cars market and hedge funds start fishing upstream all supply chain. This is where Lithium comes into play as the strategic commodity, where security of supply is the most important now. The disparity in commodity and technology valuations creates great opportunities for those who can think long-term and cherry pick the best assets at the rock bottom valuations. Where to go: always do your DD and follow the smart money from industry insiders. I will provide links for your research and share all publicly available information about International Lithium and our strategic partner Ganfeng Lithium. Please do not hesitate to contact myself on any of the social media platforms or at International Lithium. We are here to make this rEVolution happen. Dump The Pump. Read more.

"The BYD Qin (pronounced "Chin") is a plug-in hybrid compact sedan developed by BYD Auto with an all-electric range of 70 kilometres (43 mi) and a hybrid electric powertrain that can extend the car's total range to a distance similar to that of a conventional gasoline-powered vehicle. The BYD Qin concept car was unveiled at the 2012 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, and the car is named after China's first empire, the Qin Dynasty. The Qin starts at 189,800 rmb (~US$31,000), before any applicable government subsidies and tax exemptions available for eco-friendly vehicles.
The Qin is the successor of the BYD F3DM, the world's first mass-produced plug-in hybrid automobile, launched in China in 2008. In April 2012, BYD announced that due to its low sales, the F3DM was to be replaced by the Qin. The BYD Qin is the plug-in hybrid version of the BYD Su Rui, launched in the Chinese market in August 2012. The Qin was initially scheduled to be released in Shenzhen, China, in August 2013, and after missing the target date several times, deliveries began in mid December 2013. Retail sales of the BYD Qin began in Costa Rica in November 2013, and BYD plans to start sales in other countries in Central and South America in 2014.
The Qin was designed with BYD Auto's next-generation more efficient dual-mode electric powertrain. The BYD Qin uses a smaller 13 kWh lithium iron phosphate batteries (LiFePO4) instead of the 16 kWh battery used on the F3DM. The LiFePo4 battery has a high energy density and can withstand up to 4,000 charges while still retaining 80% performance, and uses no toxic heavy metals in its manufacture. Due to its improved design, the new battery is about 50% smaller and lighter than the one used on the F3DM. The reduced battery pack size will translate into reduced price, but at the expense of the all-electric range, which BYD estimates at 50 kilometres (31 mi) while the F3DM delivers an all-electric range of 97 kilometres (60 mi). BYD says the Qin will have a 7% better efficiency, power and energy-saving and in pure EV mode.
In hybrid mode, the Qin uses two 110 kW electric motors and a 1.5 liter turbo-charged direct-injected engine, instead of the 1-liter 3-cylinder engine used in the F3DM, to output 223 kW of power and 440 Nm of torque. According to BYD Auto, the Qin can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in less than 5.9 seconds and has a top speed of 185 km/h (115 mph), 3.3 seconds faster than the Chevrolet Volt. Thanks to its smaller battery and increased wheelbase, the Qin will have more interior space than the F3DM, and the styling has also been improved over BYD's earlier models, most notably in the car's interior. The Qin features two large TFT LCD displays on the dashboard, equipped with the BYD "i" intelligent cloud system platform incorporating features like telematics, cloud-computing and a full range of services 24 hours a day."
