Cheap Lithium Batteries Change Everything: EVs Sales Rising Exponentially And Solar Energy Storage Next.

InsideEVs.

InsideEVs brings to our attention the major driving force behind the exponential growth of sales for EVs from the very low base.  Cheap lithium batteries change everything. Tony Seba is the best to explain why all cars will be electric by 2030. Elon Musk with Tesla Motors is doing this trick and now Tesla Model 3 will ignite the real transition to the best cars which just happen to be electric.
Oil and Auto industry are poisoned by their own toxic cancer hazard emissions from diesel and gas powered ICE engines and still in denial at their own peril about the dramatic shift in technology  announced by Elon Musk last month. Now even truly rEVolutionary estimations for the cost of lithium batteries by Tony Seba are not relevant any more.
Elon Musk has announced that Tesla can already produce lithium battery with all-in cost of $190 per kWh. Mass production of batteries at Gigafactory will bring cost even lower, next stage will be Lithium Solid State with prices at $100 per kWh and Tesla Model S and X with over 500 miles range. I believe that Elon Musk is already working on LSS at Gigafactory. Dyson has joined the lithium race as well and bought out Lithium Solid State pioneer Sakti3 with promise to invest $1 Billion to commercialise this technology. Lithium Air is still years away from the field applications, but this lithium technology promises to bring us batteries with cost below $100 per kWh and electric cars with 1,000 miles range. Solar Energy Home and Utility Storage Systems will benefit next from this dramatic decrease in technology cost and will become even larger market for lithium based batteries. We are talking here about disruption of $4 Trillion Transportation and $8 Trillion Energy Industries. Lithium is the magic metal at the very heart of this Energy rEVolution.
International Lithium continues to build vertically integrated lithium business with $4.5 Billion MC giant from China Ganfeng Lithium and now we have 3 Lithium projects in our Upper Canada Pool to secure lithium supply for the West and North American market.

It took International Lithium 7 years of building its Lithium business and 5 years of partnership with Ganfeng Lithium: $4.5 billion market cap giant from China - to receive this acknowledgement to celebrate our 5th IPO anniversary: Watch the video."

"Ganfeng has a strong commitment to supply Lithium product to various industries worldwide,” stated Ganfeng’s Director, Wang Xiaoshen, “so we clearly have a vested interest in these projects and have been very hands-on in the evaluation of ILC’s properties. Our company is the only one in the world that has commercial production capacities to extract Lithium from both brine and spodumene, and we continually implement cutting-edge technologies to our processes. I feel confident that this is a fit for our operations and the potential these projects hold."

InsideEVs:

The U.S. Department of Energy is reporting that the continual drop in battery cost correlates directly to the increase in plug-in vehicle sales.  While we think fact this is somewhat true, we would put as much weight on the ever-increasing CARB requirements to actually sell EVs over the past several years, and also on the much expanded plug-in offerings (from 3 in 2011 to ~22 in 2014)
Additional Supporting Information
Additional Supporting Information
In 2009, the DoE estimates that lithium-ion batteries cost ~ $1,000 per kilowatt-hour (kW-hr). At this time, electric vehicles sales were essentially non-existent (very few models were on the market though). By 2011, companies were starting first efforts to produce and mass-market plug-in vehicles, as the cost dropped to $600 per kW-hr.
Battery costs have continued to fall, and at a much quicker rate, in the past few years. From 2009-2014 the drop was 71% and sales of plug-ins rose to almost 300,000.
Tesla reports battery pack cost per kWh as low as $260 (some reports say $200 per kWh) at this point and is confident that cost will be much lower soon enough.
With battery companies aggressively increasing production, as well as companies making plans to build more Gigafactories, and automakers worldwide funneling money into adding additional battery manufacturing sites, we will see this number drop exponentially in the years to come.
Whatever the main drivers to growth ultimately are, we are just pleased to see plug-in sales continue their strong growth in the US and around the world.

How Do You Call Lithium In Germany? German Firm Opens First Phase Of Europe’s Biggest Battery Factory.

Charged.

Germany is rushing into the lithium race after Volkswagen's best advertisement campaign for electric cars. BMZ lithium battery factory is not as big as Tesla's Gigafactory, but total amount of lithium batteries at 30 GWh is very impressive. Tesla Gigafactory will produce 35 GWh and it was the total amount of lithium batteries all world has produced in 2013! We are in the generational switch from 2 to 7,000 and it will be the groundbreaking catalyst for lithium technology. Mass production of batteries will bring costs down and cheap lithium batteries will change everything for $12 Trillion Transportation and Energy Industries. Tesla Model S has already outsold all great German auto luxury brands: Audi 8 BMW 7 and Mercedes S Class in 2015! So how do you cal Lithium in German once again?

How Do You Call Lithium In German? The New BMW i3. Now Born To Go Further 50% Up To 200 km.

"BMW is seeking  to attract the young and trendy urban population to its electric BMW i3. Now it will go further for another 50% of range making it up to 200 km, which is very respectable for its new 33 kWh lithium battery. With going down prices and new incentives introduced in Germany BMW i3 can build up its own following of the urban computers. My observation here will be that Tesla Model 3 is just the great car, which happens to be electric to give the best performance. BMW choice was to go for an "Electric special", which real BMW crowd will not buy.
Anything what goes on electricity is great, lithium technology is here. Germany has to embrace it fully to stay relevant. All auto-makers cannot comply with toxic emissions test on the roads. Volkswagen is still trying to block with Shell the advance of electric cars in-between of its tweets about EVs.  Because they do not have anything even close to Tesla Model S, X or coming Model 3. Even incentives, according to some reports, will be not available for Tesla Motors. We have the "old good EU corruption" in place. Energy rEVolution cannot be stopped now, the question is who will bring us millions of EVs: BYD, Foxconn or Tesla selling its Lithium Technology and Model 3 power-trains to proud Germans? Ireland Lithium For Europe: ILC And Ganfeng - Germany Plans $1.4 Billion In Incentives For Electric Cars.

This is really big news for us at International Lithium and Ganfeng - finally Germany is putting its act together. CNBC is on all morning on Volkswagen - New York Times reported that there was a Power Point Presentation in 2006 how to cheat on emissions. It is only the beginning of AutoGate - all autos cannot comply with any limits in the real driving conditions. Now Mercedes is under investigation, FIAT, PSA Peugeot, Mitsubishi was rigging fuel consumption data from ... 1991! What does it mean? It means that when you account all costs properly Electric Cars are already cheaper than ICE age once with much better performance. The problem is that we do not have enough good ones.  People are buying all they can get from Tesla Motors. Tesla Model S has already outsold in Europe Audi 8, BMW 7 and Mercedes S in 2015!

This is the real news without hype: people will buy more EVs now. Germany is igniting the EV boom in Europe's largest auto-market. India, Norway, Netherlands and Austria are all considering banning any new ICE cars to be sold in 2020s! Now the question is how to build millions of electric cars and fast. Daimler, LG Chem and A123 are building lithium batteries factories in Europe now. Tesla is talking to Germany and France on the next Tesla Gigafactory 2 location in Europe. From the last year I am calling for Elon Musk to come to Ireland where we are developing Avalonia J/V with Ganfeng Lithium. In my very personal opinion Ganfeng should be building its own lithium production plant in Ireland right at the doorstep of Europe. After Apple's melt down on the slowing sales of iPhones there are a lot of calls for it to buy into the Next Big Thing and buy Tesla. The automakers that can strike a strategic alliance with Tesla Motors and buy Tesla Model 3 lithium technology and power-trains will make millions of electric cars and take the market over. Will it be China again with its military plan to dominate the post carbon economy after this Next Industrial rEVolution in Energy?

International Lithium And Ganfeng Lithium Commence Drilling At The Avalonia Lithium Project, Ireland.

Volkswagen has made the best advertisement campaign for electric cars and Elon Musk with 325,000 orders for Tesla Model 3 in one week has shown that people are ready to buy best electric cars. Now we have a very good problem: how to make millions of EVs for all of us and fast. While Elon Musk is negotiating the best next location for Tesla Motors Factory and Gigafactory 2 in Europe, LG Chem, Daimler and A123 are all building lithium batteries facilities in EU already. Ganfeng Lithium has avery strong presence in Europe and now we are knocking on the doors to the one of the largest auto-markets in the world and building together Vertically Integrated Lithium Business to feed the Energy rEVolution. At international Lithium we have started early and acquired Avalonia lithium project in 2009. Now after years of due diligence by Ganfeng Lithium and millions of dollars in investments into the project we are drilling the defined targets to make the next step towards the economic assessment of the deposits on our property. Our J/V is fully financed by giant from China Ganfeng Lithium. Now International Lithium has active ongoing developments on all three continents: with Ganfeng Lithium from China in Ireland and Argentinaand with Pioneer Resources from Australia in Canada.

"Mr. Kirill Klip, President, International Lithium Corp. comments, “The Avalonia project joint venture, fully funded by strategic partner Ganfeng Lithium Co. Ltd., (“GFL”), could be of strategic importance to the European Union should a sufficient resource be identified. Clean fuel technologies for motor vehicles are becoming increasingly important to the European Economic Community to tackle climate change and the air pollution crisis in major urban areas. Lithium technology will play a major role when it comes to providing batteries for communication devices, electric vehicles and utility storage systems. Renewable sources of energy such as solar and wind power will also benefit from lithium battery technologies and become more commonplace as the problem of intermittency will be addressed providing steady power from these sources 24/7.” Read more.

German firm opens first phase of Europe’s biggest battery factory

German battery systems provider BMZ has opened up the first two buildings at what it says will be Europe’s biggest lithium-ion battery factory, in Karlstein-Großwelzheim, Germany.
When the facility is completed in 2020, it will cover some 55,000 square meters, including production, laboratory and office buildings. It will employ a staff of up to 1,500 people, and produce 800 million batteries per year, with a total capacity of 30 GWh.
Hold the Gigafactory comparisons, though – these batteries are not necessarily destined for electric cars.
“Lithium-ion batteries are also used in e-bikes, electrical appliances, gardening tools, energy storage systems, transport vehicles, excavators and so on,” said company founder and owner Sven Bauer. “Unlike electric cars we are presently undergoing a real demand boom in many of these sectors. The modular concept of our new factory units enables BMZ to respond faster and more flexibly to this growth scenario.”
“It is most important to build up our own production of lithium-ion cells in Germany. That is the only way to reduce the dependency risks on the few, mainly Asiatic cell producers in the long run,” continued Bauer.
Bauer says BMZ intends to launch a new cell, with a prototype available at the end of this year, that delivers up to 60% more capacity than the current industry standard 18650, along with significant improvements in durability, performance, energy and charging current.

Lithium Catalyst For Energy rEVolution - Battery Powered Homes.

Australia has exceeded 1.4 million homes with Solar power already and now deployment of lithium batteries will increase the speed of this Energy rEVolution even more. This great video explains the latest Lithium Technology for Energy Storage  and Electric Cars. The future is here and it is electric powered by Solar and Lithium Technology. Energy Storage Systems in the future will become even larger market for lithium technology than Electric Cars and demand more Lithium. We are talking here about disruption of $4 trillion Transportation and $8 Trillion Energy Industries. On the links below you can find the latest announcements from Nissan, Tesla and new names moving into the home energy storage market.

The End Of Oil: Tony Seba - The Power Of Lithium Technology Disrupting $12 Trillion Energy and Transportation Industries.

Tony Seba has made new brilliant video presentation about the disruption of $12 Trillion Energy and Transportation Industries. He is spelling out point by point how this disruption is happening right in front of us and still missed by insiders. By 2020 the tipping point will come when new EVs will be cheaper than comparable ICE cars. By 2025 all new cars will be electric ... globally. Actually, Elon Musk has already accelerated even this very aggressive estimations of technological race: he has announced that already now Tesla can produce lithium batteries with all-in cost of 190 per kWh! Mainstream media and investors are still missing the significance of that advance. It is very interesting, that Tony Seba is talking about Foxconn and its $15k EV as well. Lithium is the magic metal at the very heart of this Energy rEVolution. Lithium will be powering us for the next 50 years and after that robots. Now it is time to check again where Lithium for all those electric cars will be coming from. Watch the video."

Lithium Race With Tesla: Nissan Introduces Its Own Powerwall: “xStorage” From $4,500 Installed.

InsideEVs.

InsideEVs reports that Nissan is rushing after Tesla as well to disrupt $8 Trillion Energy Industry with home battery storage making Solar power available 24/7. Competition will bring prices down very fast. Now we have active players like Tesla, LG Chem, Mercedes, Samsung, BYD, SAFT, GCL Poly among others in the lithium storage place. Nissan home battery 4.2 kWh unit is priced at $1071 per kWh installed, which is difficult to compare, but looks like much higher than GCL Poly priced at $394 per kWh or Tesla's 10 kWh PowerWall priced at $3,500, which comes to $350 before installation. Lithium is the magic metal at the very heart of this Energy rEVolution.

Lithium Technology And Energy rEVolution: How Much Land Would It Take To Power The Entire USA With Solar Energy?

"Tesla is making headlines in the West, but the real lithium story is happening already in the East. China is taking very seriously New Energy and Solar Power with Electric Cars are strategic industries under the military type planning and execution now.
China is already the largest lithium market in the world, taking on the lithium batteries leaders and will become the largest market for electric cars in the world this year. Lithium technology is at the very heart of it. Now we are talking about disruption of $8 Trillion Energy Industry after the explosive growth of electric cars disrupting $4 Trillion Transportation Industry.
Cheaper lithium batteries change everything. We can only guess how low the prices for lithium batteries will go in China. Now this GCL Poly system is priced higher than Tesla PowerWall at $394 per kWh. Tesla's 10 kWH PowerWall is priced at $3,5000, which comes to $350 per kWh. Tesla can already produce all-in cost for $190 per kWH for its Model S and X even before Gigafactory is operating at the full scale. It is time to learn the new names. Like 28 companies in China making 51 models of electric cars or GCL Poly taking on Tesla in the energy storage business. International Lithium is plugged into the vertically integrated Ganfeng Lithium business to serve in the future post carbon economy after this Energy rEVolution. Read more."

DieselGate Volkswagen Fallout: European EVs Sales Up By 29% to 1.2% in Q1, Almost Double Of The U.S. Share.

InsideEVs: Nissan Leaf 2016.

As we have discussed before, Volkswagen has made the best advertisement for Electric Cars possible. Now we have just to make millions of the best electric cars very fast. FIAT has joined now DieselGate and the campaign promoting EVs following Mitsubishi, Opel, Suzuki and Mercedes.
The numbers reported by InsideEVs are very encouraging: EVs sales in Europe have increased 29% in Q1 to the 1.2% of the total sales. It is almost double of the U.S. EVs sales standing at 0.7% now and world-wide rate of 0.8% last year. To put this number in perspective Nissan Leaf picture is the best here: as much as I appreciate what Nissan have done for EVs market and early adopters - it is not the best car in its class which only happen to be electric like Tesla Model S.
We do not have affordable best electric cars in Europe yet. Tesla Model 3 will change it very fast. Another dragging affect on European EVs sales was from Germany as people we waiting for the new EVs incentives to be confirmed. Now there are approved from May and the largest auto-market in Europe is looking frantically for the best EVs to buy. Tesla Model S has already outsold Audi A8, BMW 7 and Mercedes S class in 2015. Now we have to make millions of the best affordable EVs like Tesla Model 3. Who will do it? Lithium technology is here. International Lithium is building the potential lithium supply with Ganfeng Lithium at our J/V in Ireland.

InsideEVs:

Car registration statistics released by ACEA show a strong increase in electric car sales throughout Europe.
In the first quarter of this year, the total plug-in deliveries for the European Union (EU), Norway, with Switzerland (EFTA) stood at 48,189, which is 28.8% more than a year ago.
Compared against the overall total, 3,931,903 vehicle registrations were made, meaning passenger EVs now hold a 1.23% market share (compared to less than 0.7% of the total market in the US).
The numbers revolve solely on new passenger car registrations, so we imagine that all the Nissan e-NV200 and Renault Kangoo Z.E. alone would push the Q1 number past 50,000 in total.
Digging deeper into the stats, we see that PHEVs are going nip and tuck with BEVs.  BEV registrations increased by 18% in Q1 to 23,717, while PHEVs increased by an even stronger 44.6% to 23,868.
The largest market for all-electric cars continues to be Norway at 6,425 registrations (but down 10.8%) and France is close behind at 6,022 (up 107.4%).
The most PHEVs were sold in UK, thanks to a new found love of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV – which logged 7,031 registrations (up 27.7%).  Second place went to Norway with 4,501 sales (up a massive 394.6%).
Norway and UK are also the largest combined markets for all plug-ins – some 21,570 registrations together, good for nearly 45% of all sales in Europe.  A number we feel is like to change with upcoming strong incentives coming online in Germany.
