Gold And Madness Of Crowds - ZeroHedge: Summarizing The "Long Dollar Trade" In One Chart.

ZeroHedge:

Summarizing The "Long Dollar Trade" In One Chart

With the USD experiencing its longest stretch of weekly gains since Bretton Woods, it appears, as SocGen notes, that recent currency movements have triggered nostalgia of the pre-crisis world when dollar strength was synonymous with a prosperous global economy. However, given the extreme positioning and potential for policy-maker complacency, SocGen warns the paradox is thus that a strong dollar tantrum could be a more worrying scenario than a Fed tightening tantrum. And who is buying Gold now:

TNR Gold Shotgun: NOVAGOLD Reports Major Progress in Advancing Donlin Gold up the Value Chain.

"We have the major news for Alaska Gold mining industry from our neighbours - Donlin Gold is moving forward! NOVAGOLD and TNR Gold were developing Shotgun Gold project together and in 2010 our company has consolidated the project and now owns 100% of it. NOVAGOLD has received TNR Gold's shares and warrants. Greg Johnson - one of the founders of NOVAGOLD has joined TNR Gold board after our very impressive results from the drilling program in the Fall 2012. Please watch the video to find out his personal statement:

"The mineralization style observed at Shotgun Ridge bears a strong resemblance to the 40 million ounce deposit at the Donlin Gold project operated by Barrick and NovaGold," stated recently appointed director Greg Johnson, "The similar age and host intrusive rocks suggest that, with continued exploration, there is significant potential to locate larger volumes of mineralization in and around Shotgun Ridge."

This development by NOVAGOLD will put Alaska back on the radar screens of Gold investors as the safe mining jurisdiction and stronger Gold prices will drive the next stage of projects development. Please read my legal disclaimer. Read more."

Powered By Lithium: Meet STRATI - The First 3D Printed Electric Car From Local Motors.

Who will be the first to tap into Elon Musk "Open Source For Electric Cars"? Is it the way Foxconn  can go with Tesla for its $15k Electric Car to be built in China? I am speculating here, but 3D technology brings totally new perception for at least the urban mobility.
I can easily envision the power-train supplied by Tesla with lithium batteries from its Gigafactory, standardised safety frame to meet the necessary safety requirements and everything else can be really customised in this case.

We can talk about the solution for the urban mobility at least and if the range can reach 150 miles - we can have the real game changer. Mass volume production will be the key here, but these dreams can be much closer to reality, than a lot of people think.
Lithium Technology meets 3D printing - it can be really interesting. You can find more information about Local Motors here.

AutoBlogGreen:

Is it just us, or did something happen at that 2014 United Nations Climate Summit in New York City this week? The largest-ever climate change march took place in the city and the headlines were full of interesting items, from the famous oil family the Rockefellers divesting their charity from fossil fuels toGoogle telling ALEC goodbye over climate change lies. World leaders from wildly different countries gave speeches detailing what they plan to do on the issue of climate change. US president Obama said today that, "the climate is changing faster than our efforts to address it," and said that the US recognizes its role in creating the problem (see a video of his speech below).
"The climate is changing faster than our efforts to address it." – President Obama
Now, we know that climate change and automobiles are connected. That's not news. Still, the march and Summit let the Diesel Technology Forum take advantage of the moment to say that diesel vehicles can be a "key solution" in working to minimize climate change. We haven't heard anything specific from any of the major automakers tied in to the Summit, but that's par for the course. Still, there have been numerous announcements and reams of data issued this week. All important, of course, but sometimes doing all this reading about climate change just can't prepare you for seeing it in person. Now, we've seen lots of activists in the streets before and we've seen world leaders and powerful organizations (like, say, the Pentagon) issue dire warnings and promise action, but there's something about the discussion regarding climate change this week that feels different than it has before. So, we ask again, it is just us, or did something just happen? Read more on AutoBlogGreen"

Future Technology: Cars, Lithium Batteries and Hydrogen.

To know the future let's study the history. The time of controlled explosions under the hood driving our cars has come and gone. Now it is time for electrification, when thanks to lithium technology you can store enough energy produced somewhere else on the cost effective industrial scale basis ideally  from the renewable sources. We can produce, transmit and now store energy in the form of electricity in the most efficient way compare to other forms.

Electric Cars Vs Hydrogen: There Are Just 12 Public Hydrogen Stations in the United States.

"I continue my research into Hydrogen and Electric Cars. Technically Hydrogen cars are electric as well, instead of only storing energy in the lithium battery you have the small energy producing plan on board called Hydrogen fuel cell. You can sense the trouble already - the full energy cycle has a very low efficiency as the chat above shows. After further research you will realise that Hydrogen cars are the same EVs with the fuel cell range extender, Lithium battery is still needed for the specific power compensation and regenerative breaking.
Hydrogen is the future ... and will always be. Electric cars are already here and pouring onto our streets in numbers now, Hydrogen based are still just a few prototypes with total lack of infrastructure. Tesla Superchargers will allow 98% of US population to cross the country from coast to coast by 2015. We have sun and wind with other alternative energy to power all our electric cars theoretically, where the Hydrogen will come from? The reports show that the cheap natural gas is the only answer here and it meansFracking in US and UK - so much for the green part of this dream and its sustainability. Apart from huge lost of energy in the full cycle, we will stay with the same old boys from the big oil who is behind this push. No energy security, no distributed energy generation, just the same old needle provided by the same people.
Hydrogen will be viable as the additional source of energy once its economics improves, but why distract the attention now instead of focusing on electric cars available lithium technology? This is what Elon Musk at Tesla and China are doing now. Tesla Gigafactory will bring even more reliable, cheaper lithium batteries to power EVs with Tesla Model S and X reaching 400 miles range. It will allow to build Tesla Model III - 35k electric car with 200 miles range to ignite the mass market. Read more."

Bloomberg:

"Germany is offering electric-car buyers the prospect of free parking as Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government seeks to boost demand for the vehicles.
The German cabinet today backed a bill that would enable municipalities to offer drivers of battery-powered cars, fuel cell vehicles and some plug-in hybrids privileges including parking and the right to use bus lanes, the Environment Ministry said today in an e-mailed statement.
“Electric cars will get their own labels so they’re recognizable to everyone,” Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt said in the statement. “Sales will rise amid an increasing selection of electric models and a growing number of e-cars on the roads.”
Germany, the focal point of the European auto industry, has set a goal of having 1 million electric vehicles on its roads by 2020, from about 21,000 at the start of the year. The goal is aimed at underscoring the country’s prowess in auto manufacturing as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions to meet climate-protection targets.
Transport, which accounts for about 16 percent of the country’s carbon-dioxide emissions, generated about 140 million metric tons of CO2 in 2012, from about 161 million tons in 2001.
The measures “can boost electric mobility,” Matthias Wissmann, president of the VDA auto industry group, said today in an e-mailed statement. The rules have to take effect quickly and apply nationally to convince customers, he said. Read more on Bloomberg."
