LG Chem breaks ground for EV battery plant in China

SEOUL, Oct. 30 (Yonhap) -- LG Chem Ltd., South Korea's largest chemicals company, said Thursday it has begun construction of an electric-powered vehicle (EV) battery factory in China with the aim of starting commercial production in 2016.
Once completed in the eastern city of Nanjin at the end of next year as planned, the plant will have the production capacity to power 100,000 EVs, the company said in an e-mailed statement.
In order to conduct its project, LG Chem established a 50-50 joint venture in August, teaming up with two of China's state-run investment companies.
LG Chem has been seeking to expand its EV battery business in China, eyeing growing demand on the back of Beijing's plans to tackle air pollution by introducing more eco-friendly cars.
"The Chinese electric car market is expected to become the world's biggest electric car market, achieving fast growth starting in 2016," said Kwon Young-soo, LG Chem's battery division director.
Global carmakers have been rushing to introduce emission-free cars in the world's largest car market as Beijing earlier announced it will have 500,000 electric-propelled vehicles on the road by 2015 and 5 million by 2020.
The global battery market for EVs is expected to grow to US$18.24 billion in 2020, more than fivefold the $3.26 billion it was in 2013, LG Chem said, quoting data by global market researcher B3. Source."

UBS: If The Referendum Passes Swiss Bank Would Have To Buy About 1,500 t of Gold over 3 years.

It is the very good speech, but the most significant here is the place where it is happening: Swiss Parliament. It could be very much the beginning of the global reset.

And who is buying Gold now:

Swiss Gold Referendum: People of Switzerland Demand Global Gold Recall Despite Central Bankers.

"Mass media is very slow to pick up on this groundbreaking development in Switzerland. Scotland referendum, Catalonia quest for independence will be just orchestrated "democratic noise" compare to this real democracy in action and its implications for the worldwide financial system. "In a word association game, If I said Switzerland, you might say cheese or chocolate or maybe the alps. But another common item everyone associates with the Swiss is their money. Their banks. Their currency.
Soon, that currency could change in a big way. This November, a Swiss Gold Referendum is going to a vote, and the repercussions, one way or the other, could cast a shadow of uncertainty on the US dollar. Nearly one-third of the Swiss Franc used to be guaranteed by gold reserves, not it’s less than 8 percent.
If THIS VOTE goes through, the Swiss will be forced to raise the gold reserve back up to 20 percent.
Joining us today is radio host Charles Goyette. He and Congressman Ron Paul have talked about central banks at great length on his radio show. Today, we’d like to get HIS input on the Swiss Gold Referendum. NextNewsNetwork"
Kitco:
“There is already support for this referendum and I am expecting the gold market to start paying more attention, especially if the polls show the vote will be close,” said Hansen.Currently, according to data compiled by the World Gold Council, Switzerland holds 1,040 metric tons of gold making up 7.7% of its reserves. In a research note published Sept. 24, Analysts at UBS said that if the referendum passes the Swiss National Bank would have to buy about 1,500 tons of gold over the next three years. “1500 tonnes equates to half of the world's annual production,” they said in the report.“That kind of gold buying would put what we’ve recently seen in China to shame,” said Hansen. Venture Beat:

Tesla has ‘proved’ electric cars are better, analysts say

When industry analysts, financial analysts and the motoring press have all lavished praise on a car, there’s a fair chance it’s a pretty good car.
That’s the case for the Tesla Model S electric car, particularly as two market analysts from Credit Suisse have seen fit to provide a point-by-point breakdown on just why the car is so good.
They even go as far as to say that Tesla has proven electric vehicles are “inherently better,” even if the general public doesn’t know it yet.
That raises an interesting point. Tesla might well have an excellent product, but if the public doesn’t know that, has it really been proven?
According to Business Insider (via Charged EVs), Credit Suisse’s Dan Galves and Shreyas Patil say the fight between combustion cars and electric vehicles will “not be a fair” one.
The analysts cite everything from the Model S’s high performance, through its low center of gravity-aided handling, to the room of an interior not encumbered by packaging typical drivetrain components as its successes.
In addition, the cost of running a car with comparatively few moving parts will be low, and that upcoming regulations will really begin to hurt regular combustion-engined cars that Tesla will be unaffected by.
And of course, ‘fuel’ costs are low, as electricity costs less than gasoline. Battery prices should come down once Tesla’s gigafactory opens, bringing down the up-front cost, too.
All this has led the pair to award Tesla an “outperform” rating, meaning it will outperform a benchmark indicator for market return.
“If Tesla can get to cost parity with an inherently better product, they will maintain the pricing power they currently enjoy,” the pair adds.
But that does rely on the wider industry and the wider public knowing that Tesla, and electric cars in general can be better.
Relatively few people read car magazines and automotive news websites. Many that do aren’t in a position to buy a Model S. And while Tesla has a high profile for such a small company, it’s comparative minnow in terms of global reach.
In other words, Telsa might well have a vehicle out there that can hold its own and even beat combustion-engined equivalents.
But if the public is unaware of the benefits, Tesla is a long way from proving it. Venture Beat."

Green Car Report:

"Electric cars and residential solar energy are intertwined. Not only are both compatible with a greener lifestyle, but advances in one seem to benefit the other.
In a decade, says a new report, increased demand for plug-in cars could also drive down the cost of home solar so much that not only would subsidies no longer be necessary, but neither would utility companies.
According to The Guardian, the reports by the Zurich-based bank UBS urges investors to pay attention to renewable energy. Green Car Report."
